CNP Focused on Fundamentals!

We are all painfully aware of the challenge our nation’s current economy presents for the nonprofit sector, not only now, but in the foreseeable future. Somehow we have to raise the money to sustain the organization and maintain our missions - a tough job, even in the best of economic times. Whether you are a major charitable institution or a tiny grass-roots startup, the challenges are shared; the only fundamental differences are those of scale.

Many of the pundits around the country are giving advice on surviving these tough times, and often the advice includes a renewed focus on the fundamentals; focusing on your mission, and re-visiting what you do, how you do it, and how you can do it better.

In keeping with this advice, we are making "Fundamentals" the focus of the CNP’s course offerings this quarter.

Workshops Focused on Fundamentals (Click on Course Title for Description)

January 20-   Fundamentals of Grant Writing (Also offered as Grant
                       Writing 101)

January 22-   Fundamentals of Creating a Fundraising Plan (Advanced

Outcomes and Measuring Impact, and Grant Administration
and Budgeting are also being offered this quarter!)

We are also offering several workshops devoted to the new IRS form 990 changes and strategies for surviving tough times. These include:

January 6-   Funders Roundtable: Strategies for Tough Times
January 13- The New 990
March 10-    Meeting the Requirements of the New 990

Our Luncheon Learning Series continues in February with shared (mostly free) Public Resources for Nonprofits, and in March (by popular demand!) we’ll have more on using social media to raise funds and awareness with Developing and Implementing a Social Media Strategy. We also offer a CEO/ED Roundtable on the fourth Friday of every month – free to members – at which we share ideas, strengthen collaborations, and learn from each other.

Our featured event this quarter will be the return of the prestigious Fundraising School of the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University in March– at a great savings!

And to make training dollars go further, we are pleased to announce that we will initiate in 2009 a matching funds program designed to pay part of the costs of workshops for struggling nonprofit organizations…details will be announced in upcoming e-newsletters and on our website.

We are welcoming your suggestions and thoughts as to what we can offer, and how we can best support our nonprofit community. Let us know…and we hope to see you at the CNP!
