A successful nonprofit organization requires a board made up of individuals dedicated to the organization’s mission, who bring with them an understanding of nonprofit leadership and a plethora of skills and areas of expertise. Through the specialized consulting and training process outlined below, the Center for Nonprofits can help take your organization’s board to its next level of high-functioning governance.
Following an in-depth assessment of how your organization’s board operates and relates to one another and staff, a highly qualified and experienced consultant with the Center for Nonprofits will present an interactive workshop focusing on the unique roles and responsibilities specifically pertaining to a nonprofit board of directors.
The training covers the following topics:
· Legal functions of governance (Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty and Duty of Obedience)
· Specific, board responsibilities (both the full board and individual members)
· Effective board structure and committees
· Strategic Planning
· Financial Planning
· Fund raising – board responsibilities and individual board member responsibilities
· Conflict of Interest
· “Smart” things to do as a board member
The training can be customized to address the unique needs or your organization and additional modules can be added to address issues or concerns specific to your agency.
This interactive workshop incorporates both class discussion and small group work. Challenging exercises include troubleshooting and case studies to help the board members determine the “right” answers for their unique organization.
The training is scheduled at the convenience of your board members, even on Saturdays or after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. The presentation can be done at a location of your choosing or you can reserve our training room here at the Center for Nonprofits. The event requires a minimum of four hours to complete.
